FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How often should I practice yoga? Practicing yoga 2-3 days per week will open your heart, free your
spirit and lead you through transformation over time. It requires consistency, patience and
discipline. Practicing yoga 4-6 days
per week can bring life-changing results.
Remember – yoga is a journey, not a destination. Enjoy the little things along the way and
you will find inner peace and harmony. Do I need to be flexible to do yoga? You do not need to be physically flexible to practice yoga. Through breathing, movement and
relaxation you will respect your body, open your heart and release
tension. You will learn how to
understand your limitations and gradually increase your level of flexibility
in both body and mind. What classes do you recommend for beginners? All of our classes are open to beginners since we demonstrate various levels of ability.
You are encouraged to practice at your own pace and listen to your
body. It is recommended that you start
with the Essential Yoga if you have physical limitations. Remember it takes time, patience and
discipline to build strength, focus, stamina and flexibility. Our introductory workshops are extremely
beneficial and highly recommended. Will class be challenging for me? No matter what your age or experience level, our classes will provide
you the opportunity to determine your own intensity. The vinyasa classes are in a warm
environment so you will build heat to release toxins, stretch, strengthen and
tone muscles, release tension and stress, improve circulation, digestion and
respiration. You will energize,
restore and calm your mind. Your first
classes may be difficult but with continued practice you will be on your way
to unleash your potential for true self-transformation. Yoga is
non-competitive giving everyone the opportunity to practice at their own
level of ability. |

Music/DVD
Review
One
of the nation's most sought after yoga instructors, Seane Corn has developed
a devoted following with her ambitious, dynamic ways of teaching yoga. This
program features her unique, unscripted methods in a fantastic flowing
workout that is designed to build strength and flexibility while integrating
the breath with conscious movement. The emphasis of this workout is on
precise alignment and features modified sun salutations, backbends, standing
poses and twists. This is a great workout for anyone who seeks to achieve an
enhanced, balanced inner self as well as physical rewards in their yoga
workout. Special DVD features include a breath session (a full practice minus
instruction, where the pace is driven by breath) and a bonus interview with
Corn. Total DVD running time: 2 hrs 22 minutes. DVD’s and CD’s can be purchased at
our studio. |
Why is the studio heated? In order to practice the poses safely and effectively, you need to
warm the inner body with the breath and practice in a warm environment. When you practice in the cold or
air-conditioning, you have greater risk injury and muscle soreness. The body is unable to open up to and
receive the full benefits of the poses.
The Ashtanga Yoga Institute states that, “Without
heat, any attempt to stretch or realign the body is a complete waste of time.
You have to be warm while
stretching. This is accomplished by doing strength work concurrently and
continuously along with the stretch. In
many of us who've been active exercisers for years, our muscle and connective
tissue are starting to feel like the iron in our cars. The only way to get
rid of the dent (unless you just want to hammer it out cold - and some of you
actually try that method!) is to heat up our frame and remold it. Surgery
might correct a structural imbalance, but it does not restore the tissue to
the pre-injured elastic, supple state. Drugs may get rid of pain, spasm, or
inflammation, but not the cause of same. The "memory" of the injury
will stay there forever until we do some body work to heat, correct, and
re-align.” At Inner Sun we heat our studio to a temperature suited to each particular
level of class so you can adjust to practicing in a warm environment. Our Essential Flow (beginner) class is
approximately 74 degrees, Vinaysa Flow (moderate) 78 degrees and Energy Flow
(intermediate/advanced) 82 degrees. If you typically do not do well with
heat, you will find that after a few classes your body will be acclimated to
better tolerate the heat of summer, etc.
Generally, it is because of toxins that have built up in your body,
hormonal imbalances and medical conditions that make it hard for the body to
adjust to heat. By practicing yoga in
the warmth, you expel toxins and promote balance to your body, mind and
spirit. You will take yourself further
in your practice than you ever thought possible! Note: Pregnancy is one condition that care should
be taken not to overheat. Therefore,
we do not allow pregnant women in our regular flow classes. We recommend our restorative class which is
in a cooler environment and designed especially for pregnant women and those
with medical conditions such as fibromyalgia, menopause, etc. Summer heat: When it is
extremely humid and hot outside, we will turn the air on to get rid of some
humidity. However, the studio is still
warm so make sure you stay hydrated and dress accordingly. You will find that you have your best
practices when it is warm outside and your body is all ready to go! |

TESTIMONIALS I decided to start yoga after seeing
various ads about how it helps with lower back pain. I can’t say how glad I am that I decided to
try it and came to Inner Sun. All of
the teachers are wonderful. I look
forward to class and leave feeling refreshed, both physically and mentally. Thanks to Deb and Inner Sun for introducing
me to yoga – I am hooked! ~ Ann Deb is WONDERFUL! Thanks to the one-on-one instruction, we’ve
been able to create a yoga practice that specifically meets my needs and
interests. Deb’s an excellent
instructor who listens to her students and focuses on their abilities and goals. I’m so grateful to have found her! She’s worked wonders for me. ~ Ashley Participating in yoga has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever
made. It’s too easy to get caught up
in the business of every day and never stop going, and that’s when stress
levels can escalate. Yoga is a wonderful
way to spend a little bit of time each week concentrating on your well-being,
which is very important but often overlooked.
With the convenience of drop-in classes, it’s too good of an
opportunity to pass up! ~ Emily Yoga class with Deb has helped calm and
center me. She is excellent at getting
you into the proper poses and does a great job explaining the breathing
techniques and the background behind the discipline. Her classes put me in a better mental state
after very stressful days at work. If
I have one of my tension headaches at the time (of which I have many), after
one hour of stretching, breathing and focus, it’s gone. I have attended classes with Deb for the
past six years and she continues to challenge me with new poses and techniques. I’m hooked! ~ Becky I wanted to let you know how
much my experience with yoga these past months has helped me out. During my pregnancy, I felt very grounded,
balanced and truly, truly overall fantastic; no aches, no pains, and very little
discomfort. Yet, where my yoga breath
and experience came in really useful was during the actual labor and delivery
of this sweet child. The 18 hour
process was, for me, a meditation, a Zen journey. I had no desire for drugs, and really,
looking back at it, no reality of "pain." I can't even begin to thank you for what
you are doing, and with highest recommendations, am suggesting to all the
pregnant friends I know, to DO YOGA!!!!
And it only continues. In these
first few days of being home, the challenges are everywhere, but deep
breathing and patience are the magic key.
Yoga has truly been a blessing this pregnancy. ~ Jenna Underneath Deb’s refreshing approach, humor and light heartedness
lays an uncompromising dedication to the health and well being of each of her
students. Her desire and commitment to
continue to learn and grow professionally provides her students new insights
into themselves and their yoga practice. ~ JLL,
Certified Yoga Teacher |
